Daylight Response Algorithmic Skin for Paddock Building UPH (by Lievia Savila and Devina Andreas)

Daylight Response ALGORITHMIC SKIN for Paddock Building
Lievia Savila - Devina Andreas

These project is the continuation of the previous object (Daylight | Algorithmic Skin Halte Transjakarta). The main concern remain unchanged, daylighting issue, and so the module is based from the previous project.

The paddock building at Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang, was first initiated to support the A1 racing. However when the A1 racing plan was terminated the paddock became a rented place usually for exhibition. The paddock itself has its own problems and one of the problem is the intensity of daylight that enters the building. The most intense daylight move along from north to west direction, therefore the west end of paddock building is nearly unprotected from those intense daylight. Neither the north or west side of the west end is covered with glass so does the south end, the only protection is the solid roof.

The first attempt to prevent the intense daylight is through the general programming, massing and form. Through the application of algorithmic skin, the intense daylight could be reduced until 90%, and the rest of the unfiltered daylight could light up the room.

Zephyr Exhibition Space [IgnatiusCP_DevinaSetiono]

Zephyr is reffereing to the concept of the exhibition space. Zephyr definition is light wind or west wind. Site located at Pelita Harapan University. The purpose of this design is to make a space for exhibition by modifying the paddock building to be an exhibition space. The main issue is thermal control. The spesific idea of thermal control is wind direction. The modules are designed to catch the wind, responding to the wind direction. The main goal of this project of course isn’t only thermal controlling, energy saving, but also improvise visual quality of an existing building envelop.
